Organisers of the F4UAE Championship powered by Abarth have today welcomed Hankook as the official tyre partner for the forthcoming season starting at Yas Marina Circuit in December, 2017.

Joining a long list of F4 championships globally which run Hankook – including the Australian F4 Championship, F4 Spain, British F4, SMP F4 NEZ Championship and F4 SEA – all entries in this second season of F4UAE will run the Hankook Ventus F200 slick tyre and Z206/7 wet-weather tyre for 2017/18.

The new official tyre for F4UAE is also identical in construction to those employed in the FIA European F3 Championship, meaning that drivers are be able to gain valuable track experience on the tyres and grow to learn their characteristics ahead of making the next step up the FIA single-seater ladder.

With the tyres being supplied directly from the factory in South Korea, F4UAE technical director Craig Thompson said was confident that the change to Hankook for the 2017/18 season will be a beneficial one.

“We are very pleased with the arrangement we’ve secured with Hankook, and because there has been significant success using the tyre for F4 in other countries, we have every faith that our drivers and teams will enjoy racing on them as well,” said Thompson. “Hankook tyres maintain the level of quality and safety we require to race on, not only at our international standard circuits but also to withstand the hot and dusty conditions that the Middle East tracks are known for. So we look forward to being able to assist Hankook with its own tyre research and development for such conditions as well.”

As part of the arrangement with the Championship promoter, Hankook will provide tyre fitting services at the track when official sessions take place and will provide an experienced tyre engineer who will be available to all teams for advice on their tyres and set up.

“We are very pleased and honoured to be the official tyre supplier to F4UAE,” said Mr Hongsik Jeon, Manager of HK Motorsport.

“This is our first big and important step in the GCC region and we are confident that we can contribute in the motorsport industry with our solid partnership with F4UAE. We are happy to be able to bring Hankook's great success from many other F4 series all over the world to the Middle East.”

The 2017/18 FIA F4UAE Championship will consist of 24 races across 6 rounds and be held at both Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi – the Home of F4UAE – and the Dubai Autodrome. The Championship begins with pre-season testing in late October, before racing commences in mid-December and goes right through until early March 2018.

Open to drivers aged 15 years and above, F4 was created by world’s governing body of motorsport, the FIA, to help young drivers bridge the gap between existing regional racing series and karting, to European competition and potentially Formula 1®.
