TEAM NEWS: BWT Mücke Motorsport to field Nico Göhler in 2020 season
For the third time in a row, BWT Mücke Motorsport will take part not only in the German and Italian Formula 4 but will also compete in the United Arab Emirates with 16-year-old Nico Göhler. He is the first driver to be confirmed by the famous Berlin-based outfit with plans to field several cars in F4UAE and in Europe.
Göhler comes from Grasleben near Wolfsburg and is now in his second season as a Pink Panther. He secured several podiums in the Rookie classification in his debut year in the German Formula 4 and achieved an amazing feat, scoring maximum points in the Junior category at the Hockenheimring during the Formula 1 grand prix weekend.
And he will have the chance to go out and do it again in the opening round of the F4 UAE, as the promoters have come up with a very special highlight for participants before the fourth F4 UAE season has even got started. A Trophy Round will be held during the last Formula 1 race of 2019 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The results of the two races will have no bearing on the championship.
The season officially begins in early January within the context of Dubai’s 24-hour race at the Dubai Autodrome. Two more race weekends will follow in Abu Dhabi, before the two final events of the season are held once again in Dubai. The season ends on the first weekend of March 2020. Several practice and qualifying sessions will be held during each race weekend in addition to the four races.
BWT Mücke Motorsport have previously achieved great success in the United Arab Emirates. Last year, the team scored a total of ten podium finishes with Göhler and his Paraguayan team-mate, Joshua Dürksen, including five wins by Dürksen.
Frank Lucke (Formula 4 Team Director): “Bringing on junior drivers is paramount at BWT Mücke Motorsport. We are always happy to support young talent and, of course, love to see them go all the way to the top. The F4 UAE is a basic constituent of that process, as it offers great opportunities to prepare young drivers during the winter for the season ahead. Conditions outdoors are ideal when you think of what winter in Europe is like. What’s more, drivers can gain vital experience in the scraps when racing plus knowledge about tyre degradation that test drives can only provide to a limited extent. We are very pleased that Nico Göhler is making this important move with us. He has already shown flashes of talent in his first season and we think there’s a good chance we’ll get off to a flying start with him in the Formula 4 UAE quite apart from the fact that these races will stand him in really good stead for the ADAC Formula 4 next season. The tremendous success achieved by previous participants definitely shows that.”
