BWT Mücke Motorsport sign Erick Zuniga to contest F4UAE in 2020
A new year brings a new addition to the team: BWT Mücke Motorsport have recruited Erick Zuniga, a talented youngster from Mexico. Zuniga, who was born on 13th October 2004 in Guadalajara, made his debut on the karting scene at the age of nine. He has been racing in numerous kart series since 2017, both in Mexico and in the USA.
Zuniga drove for the Sergio Perez Karting Team owned by Formula 1 star Sergio Perez. He also spent some time at the Montoya team run by ex-Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya. After three years in karting, Zuniga is now making the step up to single-seater motor racing.
And it won't be long before his first major outing. Zuniga and BWT Mücke Motorsport are in the United Arab Emirates this week where the Dubai Autodrome hosts the first fixture of the F4UAE Championship powered by Abarth in the context of the Dubai 24 Hours. The first two races will be staged on Thursday, with two more on Friday. The action will be shown on a YouTube livestream at www.youtube.com/channel/UC9scQ1HQ4zGy3JVXK7xyvgg/. Zuniga will be driving car number 23.
The F4UAE Championship powered by Abarth is about to enter its fourth year. The season comprises 20 races over five race weekends, i.e. four races per event. That means a lot of driving experience for graduates from the karting circuit such as Zuniga. The races will be held in the Dubai Autodrome and on the Formula 1 track in Abu Dhabi, the Yas Marina Circuit.
The F4UAE Championship powered by Abarth season ends in March. In mid-May, Zuniga and BWT Mücke Motorsport will embark on their Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth campaign. The programme consists of seven racing weekends on the Formula 1 tracks of Monza, the Hungaroring and the Red Bull Ring, as well as at Imola, Vallelunga, Misano and Mugello.
In both series, Zuniga will be aiming to gain formula racing experience and to challenge for points in the Best Rookie classification.
